Why Laser Treatment for Pigmentation and Age Spots?
At London Real Skin we use the Harmony XLi laser platform with a 570 wavelength hand piece for treating pigmentation conditions including brown marks on the skin, sun spots and freckles. It is a safe and effective treatment with minimal downtime.
The laser light is absorbed by the melanin / pigment causing heat destruction of the cells. The pigment in the skin will appear darker as the cells are lifted to the surface causing a light scab, which will then shed and reveal the lightened fresh skin.
During your consultation for £25 one of our experienced Medical Aestheticians will assess your suitability for treatment. Depending on the size of the area being treated a patch test may be required.
The Medical Aesthetician will advise a treatment plan including the expected number of treatments and duration between treatments. They will also advise on any skincare products that may be suitable to complement the treatment.
Treatment sessions can take around 30 minutes. Laser Treatment is a non-invasive, comfortable procedure that provides lasting results. It can be used on any skin type, and for most treatments you can return to work immediately after each session.
Patients with darker skin types may need to see a Dermatologist for topical treatment prior to any laser treatments. Patients with skin conditions may need a skin-check from a Dermatologist prior to any treatment.
• Avoid direct sun exposure for at least one week post treatment and use sunscreen SP50 at all times
• Avoid swimming until the treated area is fully healed
• Avoid hot baths, heat treatments and exercise for the first 48 hours
• Avoid picking scabs
• Avoid using retinoids for 2 days before treatment and 7 days post treatment
Is it safe?
All laser treatments are with qualified Medical Aestheticians with risks being very low. Patients must follow aftercare instructions, which will be explained in details at your consultation.
What pigmentation conditions can be treated by laser?
We can treat a range of pigmentation skin conditions including brown marks, sun spots and freckles and age spots. For some conditions it may be necessary to have a course of topical skincare treatment prior to laser treatment.
How many sessions will I require?
The number of sessions depends on what is being treated but typically are between 1 to 3 sessions. Acne scars and scar revision may require from 4 sessions. You will be advised on the expected number of sessions during your initial consultation.
