Dr Nicola Clayton recently told the Telegraph how important it is to protect our scalps…

“Sunburn to your scalp can cause skin cancer and therefore it’s essential to protect it from both UVA and UVB rays. Moreover, these rays damage the hair cuticle and keratin, leading to cosmetically undesirable effects such as bleaching, loss of lustre and split ends. Dry, fine, blonde, heat or chemically treated hair is most vulnerable, and damage is exacerbated by chlorine. Wetting your hair immediately before and after swimming (with fresh water) reduces the absorption of pool water. Leave-in UV products will filter some of the sun’s rays, and several include antioxidants and moisturisers to further protect and to rehydrate.
