What is laser treatment for pigmentation and age spots?

Age spots and pigmentation issues can develop over time, and become especially prominent as we reach middle age. Age spots are caused by an excess of melanin in the skin, and develop through sun exposure. At London Real Skin we use the Harmony XLi laser platform with a 570 wavelength hand piece for treating pigmentation conditions including brown marks on the skin, sun spots and freckles. It is a safe and effective treatment with minimal downtime.

The laser light is absorbed by the melanin / pigment causing heat destruction of the cells. The pigment in the skin will appear darker as the cells are lifted to the surface causing a light scab, which will then shed and reveal the lightened fresh skin.

What are the benefits of laser treatment for pigmentation and age spots?

Laser treatment is an effective non-surgical treatment for improving pigmentation of the skin and reducing brown marks on the skin such as age-spots, sun spots and freckles.

As there is minimal downtime associated with the procedure, you can fit the treatment in around your busy schedule.

All laser treatments are carried out by our qualified Medical Aestheticians, and are low risk. While results will vary between individuals, most patients will see noticeable improvement after having between one and three sessions.

What is involved in laser treatment for pigmentation and age spots?

During your consultation one of our experienced Medical Aestheticians will assess your suitability for treatment. The Medical Aesthetician will advise on the number of treatments to get the best results. The Medical Aesthetician will advise a treatment plan including any skincare products that may be suitable to complement the treatment. You will have a patch test to ensure safety.

Prior to treatment you will be asked to ensure the skin is clean and dry and to remove any lotions, fragrances and make-up.

During the treatment your skin will be cleaned and you will be asked to wear special goggles to protect your eyes. The aesthetician will treat the area with the Harmony laser.

Patients with darker skin types may need to see a Dermatologist for topical treatment prior to any laser treatments. Patients with skin conditions may need a skin-check from a Dermatologist prior to any treatment.
