What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?
At London Real Skin we use an Erbium YAG laser to treat many skin conditions such as lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, crepey skin, acne scarring, some type of melasma, enlarged pores and stretch marks. The laser produces energy in the mid infrared invisible light spectrum which can be used to precisely target skin and water-holding tissue, leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. This creates a controlled thermal injury or wound that leads to remodelling of collagen (the protein in the skin that controls skin strength and elasticity).
What are the benefits of Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Immediately after the treatment, the skin will feel hot and appear red. Your practitioner will apply an ointment to help sooth the skin. Patients can appreciate dramatic results once the skin has completely healed. Patients have reported feeling their skin to be tighter and plumper. Lines will be softened and pigmentation will be cleared. The results will vary depending on the condition you are treated for.
What is involved in Laser Skin Resurfacing?
During a consultation, one of our practitioner will examine your skin. They will determine if you are suitable for this procedure. If so, photos will be taken before the procedure.
The skin will be cleansed with an antiseptic solution prior to treatment. A topical aesthetic will be applied onto the skin and left on for about 20 minutes for comfort. The practitioner will remove the anaesthetic, re cleansed the skin and commence treatment.
Immediately after, the skin will feel hot and appear red. Your practitioner will give you aftercare instructions to follow. Photos will be taken after the procedure, and this allows the practitioner to compare the results. Improvement of the skin can be seen after 1 session although we recommend a course of 3 treatments with one treatment every 4 to 6 weeks for optimal results.
What are the risks or potential side effects of Laser Skin Resurfacing?
The downtime can last from 5 to 14 days depending on the setting chosen. Patients can expect a sunburn like sensation after treatment. The skin may feel tight, dry or itchy.
