What is acne scar treatment?
Acne can lead to scarring which can affect someone’s confidence just as much as the acne itself. Once the acne is under control, we can treat the remaining scarring.
Dermal filler improves the appearance of acne scars by lifting the depressed scars. A small quantity of Hyaluronic Acid which as a smooth gel consistency, will be injected under the scar to lift the area and make it less obvious. The results are immediate and can last between 12 to 18 months.
What are the benefits of acne scar treatment?
After the treatment the skin will appear smoother and the scars will be less obvious. During the following days after the treatment the skin will be more hydrated and the texture improved. Below are acne scars before and after.
What is involved in acne scar treatment?
During a consultation, one of our practitioner will examine your skin. They will determine if you are suitable for this procedure. If so, photos will be taken before the procedure.
The skin will be cleansed with an antiseptic solution and the practitioner will mark the areas to inject. A topical local anaesthetic cream will be applied to your skin. It will be left on for about 20 minutes.
After the local anaesthetic is removed the practitioner will start injecting. Most injections will be done within the subcutaneous tissues.
Photos will be taken after the procedure, and this allows the practitioner to compare the results.
What are the risks or potential side effects of acne scar treatment?
There may be some bleeding during the treatment. As a result, there may be some bruising and swelling in the injected area that can last for 24 to 48 hours. Your practitioner may recommend applying ice for 15 minutes afterwards on the injected area to minimise swelling and to make it more comfortable.
What aftercare is required for acne scar treatment?
Aftercare will vary but usually you will be required to keep the skin moisturised.
