Acne Scar Treatment London

From our Holborn (Central London) based clinic, we provide a full range of Acne treatment options to reduce scarring and improve overall skin appearance. Acne can lead to scarring which can affect someone’s confidence just as much as the acne itself. Once the acne is under control, we can treat the remaining scarring.

What are the benefits of acne scarring treatment?

After the acne scar removal the skin will appear smoother and the scars will be less obvious. During the following days after the treatment the skin will be more hydrated and the texture improved. The skin will begin to look clearer with less acne scarring.

Once acne scars have been treated the results can give your confidence a huge boost, particularly if you’re a young adult. With clearer skin it is not uncommon for those who have undergone treatment to wear less make-up, or even no make-up whatsoever as a result of this amazing transformation.

Acne Scars: The Treatment Options

There are a wide variety of treatment options for acne scars including laser surgery, photo rejuvenation, chemical peels, dermabrasion, collagen induction therapy, trichloroacetic acid and even tea tree oils & creams. However, the success of a treatment will vary from individual to individual.

At London Real Skin we use tried and tested methods for acne scar reduction.

If you are looking for the best products and treatments for scar removal / reduction then why not book an appointment for a complimentary skin care consultation and speak to one of our highly experienced practitioners who can assess your skin and provide the best course of treatments.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

At London Real Skin we also use an Erbium YAG laser to treat acne scarring. The laser works by producing energy in the mid infrared invisible light spectrum which can be used to precisely target skin and water-holding tissue (the scar), leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. This creates a controlled thermal injury or wound that leads to remodelling of collagen. As a result the skin appear smoother and the scars are less visible.

Dermal Filler

This improves the appearance of acne scars by lifting the depressed scars. A small quantity of Hyaluronic Acid which as a smooth gel consistency, will be injected under the scar to lift the area and make it less obvious. The results are immediate and can last between 12 to 18 months.

Micro-needling

At London Real Skin we also use The SkinPen microneedling device that causes controlled micro-injuries and stimulate the body’s natural wound healing process. The micro-injuries trigger the release of cytokines and growth factors that lead to remodelling of collagen and elastin, therefore making the skin look smoother. A course of 4 to 6 sessions is necessary to treat acne scarring and optimal results can be seen when combined with other treatments like dermal filler.

The Acne Scar Removal Treatment Process

  1. During a consultation, one of our expert practitioners will examine your skin. They will determine if you are suitable for this procedure. If so, photographs will be taken before the procedure.
  2. The skin will be cleansed with an antiseptic solution and the practitioner will mark the areas to inject. A topical local anaesthetic cream will be applied to your skin. It will be left on for about 20 minutes.
  3. After the local anaesthetic is removed the practitioner will commence with treatment. Most injections will be done within the subcutaneous tissues.
  4. Photos will be taken after the procedure, allowing the practitioner to compare the results.

Frequently Asked Questions

There may be some bleeding during the treatment. As a result, there may be some bruising and swelling in the injected area that can last for 24 to 48 hours. Your practitioner may recommend applying ice for 15 minutes afterwards on the injected area to minimise swelling and to make it more comfortable.

Acne scar treatment is relatively painless. Any dermal fillers used for injecting contain a local anaesthetic so you may feel a small pin-prick initially. And during microneedling treatment, we also use a topical anaesthetic which numbs the area.

Laser treatment may also make the skin feel hot like a bad sunburn, but we will advise on aftercare to help make this a more comfortable and easy experience for you.

Acne scar treatment provides permanent results. The texture and appearance of the skin is improved. Dermal filler may need to be reapplied after 12-18 months although over time the skin continues to heal itself. It is important to control the underlying acne to ensure that further scarring does not occur and so your treatment plan will include skincare to manage any ongoing acne.

There is no one size fits all acne scar reduction treatment available. Each person is different and so will require a personalised approach to treating their acne scars. We have a number of evidence based treatments here at the clinic that are effective in reducing and minimising acne scarring. Your treatment plan may involve microneedling, dermal filler injections, laser treatment, and the use of custom skincare products.
